What’s that? A podcast??
Listen to it here on LibSyn, or follow on Spotify!
Yes! I am trying to get back into podcasting, because I’ve been listening to quite a few while doing database cleanup at work, at it gives me a hankering to do it myself. After figuring out why everything I’d been recording sounded so bad (the gain on my mic was turned all the way down), I was suddenly able to produce audio I didn’t hate, and we’re off to the races.
This episode is based on one of my first blog posts, Candace Wheeler: the Mother of American Interior Design, which was itself based on a paper I’d written at FIT. The problem with podcasting for me when I first started is that it actually takes quite a long time to write the text for a substantial episode, and as I have approximately two dozen different hobbies plus a job, I couldn’t spare the time! So I’m going to get back in by recording blog posts and AskHistorians answers, as I actually have written hundreds of thousands of words about history already.
I added some commentary on my connection to Candace at the beginning, and in the future I’m hoping to add more commentary to these recordings: another part of my previous problem in producing a significant amount of episodes was that I found myself very self-conscious about extemporizing rather than reading, and hating having to listen to myself to heavily edit the file later. Between the mic improvement and doing some podfics, I’ve made strides there as well. Look for more episodes to follow soon!
